Short Course in Psycho-Oncology
Course Introduction
Psycho-oncology has become a subspecialty of oncology with its own body of knowledge contributing to cancer care. Its broad reach and relevance has evolved over the past decades with applications at all points on the cancer continuum from early detection through to management of the psychological aspects of palliative and end-of-life care. Understanding psychotherapeutic approaches for patients with cancer and their families is a critical skill for medical and allied health professionals.
Course Objectives
In a hands-on and interactive program, participants will discuss different models of psychotherapy for patients with cancer at all points on the cancer continuum. They will be exposed to practical demonstrations of therapeutic interactions, participate in role play with trained actors and get practical feedback to improve their skills.
Who Should Attend
This specialist course has been designed for qualified and experienced psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and social workers to provide the opportunity to learn about the specific psychotherapeutic approaches to working with people with cancer at all stages along the cancer pathway and to experience their application.
Academic Team
There will be a range of speakers from the Psychosocial Cancer Care Department, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. The coordinator of the program is Dr Dianne A Clifton, Medical Director of Psychosocial Cancer Care, St Vincent's Health Melbourne.

$620 + GST Early Bird Offer (Valid for registrations received by November 6, 2009)
$700 + GST per person thereafter
The fees include course materials, catered lunch and morning & afternoon tea. This is a 2 full day course including experiential practice.
