Emergency Medicine
Emergency Medicine is a new specialty area within medicine, and the Postgraduate Diploma in Emergency Medicine offers formal postgraduate training in this specialty area. It is managed by
Melbourne Consulting and Custom Programs on behalf of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne and leads to an award from the University of Melbourne.
While there is an established pathway to NASQAC-recognised specialist qualifications for Australians wishing to practice as specialists in emergency departments, there is no course/ qualification for doctors working as career medical officers within hospitals. This is especially true in rural and regional areas that cannot support a fulltime specialist, or among general practitioners practising in rural and remote areas who may identify a need for additional training in Emergency Medicine.
